The Next Realm

Oh weary hearted traveler
You who find the pains across the seas and ache
You find sanctuary in the Church
In the further reaches of nature

Oh weary traveler
Your friend has died- she has begun her metamorphosis
As you lay down your burdons on these pews
She unfolds, energy transforms as she leaves the storm
Behind
And emerges a being of calm and light.

Christ, that body is empty
But symbolizes transformation
The cross is Pagan, celebrates your friend
Dana Bowen.

I Rejoice in your loves-
Celtic music, reluctant dancing
She smiles
Open debates about humanity
Anout motives and war and traveling

You would be here with me
-But you are!
You, free of the constraints of the body
You fly!

On the Ferry

I ended up seated next to a very outgoing Irish woman who was a redhead, of all things. :)
We struck up a conversation with the couple across from us who were contractors to the European Commission on vacation. We talked about politics, about propaganda and facades, about accents and Americans and the French, and their age-old antipathy for one another, and about music.
The redhead, whose name was Derina, was actually a trained soprano singer, and she had dated a man from LA who was a tenor! I was amazed at all the connections we could make, and at how much she knew.
We had a grand time going over, and the Club Class provided gratuities such as coffee, mochas, espressos, brie and blue cheese, olives and bread and butter and sweets.
It was quite a ride, and I enjoyed the company thoroughly.

Dublin Part 2

After making the second bus and a goodbye to Tyr, I was headed on the next portion of my trip. It's been nearly a month, and I am amazed.
I watch as my life unfolds in new paths every day, and each week feels like a different life.
I ended up making it to Holyhead and had the good graces with me as a woman came ("Lady Luck") and showed me to the port where I was to catch the IrishFerries Swift ferry.
I went into the large building, which had all the modern ammenities (shopping, tourist attractions, cafe, Ferry counters) and asked the woman at the counter if I could buy a ticket for the next IrishFerry across.

Dublin

I caught the Arriva bus from Gwynedd (I think was the name... I keep getting it confused with another place!) and made it up to Holyhead on time for the next ferry.
Wow.
That sounds simple and clean doesn't it?
Well there were a few ripples in the water.
First, my alarm, set for 8am, didn't succeed in waking me. Whether this was because I was out like a light, or because it didn't go off (most likely the former), I can't say for sure.
But I woke about ten minutes before I needed to be at the bus stop to catch the early bus up.
Needless to say, I missed that bus.
I'm going to break this up into two posts, because this hostel computer, free as it is, cuts off at a twenty minute period and you lose everything if you don't post.
So this is the first part.

Cefndeuddwr

Translations available in: English (original) | French | Spanish | Italian | German | Portuguese | Swedish | Russian | Dutch | Arabic

I have just finished composing the guitar part of my latest song. I will look for a way to post it online, I may be able to via this blog...
I am currently staying on a 30 acre farm in the Welsh hills, close to the Mawddach (Mouth-ach) river-estuary. Bilberries, a close relative of blueberries, grow rife on the slopes nearby, and I went bilberry picking with my host the other day.
Blue fingers, teeth, lips and pants... what more could you want?
I am finding this week to be yet another profoundly varied one. I have come at a time of major change in the family I am visiting, and they have been not only gracious, but also incredibly welcoming and warm.
I have encountered many kindred spirits here: Tyr, my WWOOF host, is one. She is an adventurer like me, and has been settled for the past 9 years on Cefndeuddwr (Kevin-DAY-thor).
Side note: This estate has been standing since the 1500s, and there's an ancient Roman highway that passes by it dating even further back.
Tyr (Tear) is an oddball like me, and loves to play fiddle, which she is dedicated to learning. We have had good talks, and I sense that this has been a beneficial time for me to be here to support her. She's done everything to make me feel at home and to ensure that I enjoy my stay... she wants to keep my here for 6 months. :)

Jenny, the wise 25 year old daughter of my host John (owner of the farm, partner to Tyr), has aligned herself with eco-villages and progressive communities around the world, much like I hope to do. It's inspiring to meet one with the experiences I have been looking for, and to share so openly with her on life and journeys.

I have met many others during my stay, and I've taken part in the turbulent ride of emotions as Jenny and her husband Niko prepared over the past several days to leave (this morning) for Canada. The family held multiple goodbye-parties and there have been influxes of friends and locals wishing them the best in their new home overseas.

On Monday, I plan to leave for Ireland.
I look forward to the next leg of my trip, but I will miss Tyr and I've promised to return for bilberry pie in the cooler months. We have "too much fun together".
I have been getting some fiddling in, and the creative juices flow strong here.
New bands I've been introduced to:
The Loaded Dice-
personally introduced, actually... these guys are talented young musicians local to this area, and I went to listen to them play at a bar nearby Tuesday night. A HUGE turnout, I think half the locals showed up to hear them play. They won the Battle of the Bands, a Britain-wide competition, and will be touring and creating another album. GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Kila-
NOT personally introduced, but the music is amazing. Celt/world beat music, excellent bodhran player, all-round top musicianship.

Ember-
What happens when a woman from Wales and a woman from Utah meet in Spain on a street while busking?
This awesome band is made. They live in a town near here called Machynlleth. Play folk/eclectic world music. Tyr helped them make a music video for the song titled "Storm", a very poetic and lyrical piece like all their stuff. Check out the link below to see it.

Xavier Rudd-
Blues, world, eco-political artist. Wonderful harp parts, great driving beat and funky didg (didgeridoo).

Nigel Kennedy and the Kroke (Kro-kay) Band-
Eastern European band, Polish, does some interesting arrangements of traditional music. They blend east and western stuff, giving classical and minor key trad blends.

That's enough for right now. I'll have more to add later, but they're all worth a listen. Tyr also owns cd's of the Indigo Girls, Alison Krauss, Michael Franti, Old Crow Medicine Show, Janis Joplin, and Ani Difranco- She's well versed in music.
I have been enjoying my stay, wonderful people, loads of sheep and cows and chickens and geese (Peeper is a very talkative goose that was raised in the kitchen of Cefndeuddwr)... and now for the part you're all waiting to hear: I HAVE tried some decent whiskey and some reeeally good cider... It helps that I don't buy my own drinks. I haven't paid for a drink since I got here almost a month ago, and subsequently, haven't gotten terribly wasted once.
I also have met lively and worldly people everywhere I've been, and all are shocked once they discover my age. (REALLY? NEVER would've guessed... you're so mature!... Heh.) They all want to know whether I'm on holiday, what I'm studying, etc. I've gotten quite good at vaguely outlining myself and my plans. :) I guess I present a good facade.
Send all my lovin' to you!
