"Conspiracy"

It has occured to me that I am in love with change. Though it may sound perverse, I also relish the extreme diversity and multitude of problems that force me to feel the need to act. The need to act is innate, and in my mind, is on a plane with satisfaction: global warming, destruction and starvation all providing a certain high that I cannot obtain from suspense movies or provocative novels. The shere expansiveness of topics and issues presents an endless stream of discussion and brings relationships to places I may never have discovered were it not for today's world problems.
What intrigues me as well is the sense that there is very little energy coarsing through the masses, very little anxiety and urgency feeding Dave's mind or Lizzy's actions. The scale of global threats: endangered species and habitats, destructive technology, war and conflict, drugs and addiction, power mania and media masks... it's as though all this slips right through the mental strainers and divides into a place of dreamlike quality, perhaps stored off in the same corner where Dave stores his memory of Orwell's 1984 and other things labeled 'conspiracy'. The word conspiracy is a mask. It is used as a belittlement, to turn an issue into theory or fiction, and thereby turn its proclaimers into raving nuts who cannot sort fact from myth. There are certainly issues that are labeled from the get-go as non-viable, completely irrational based on everything we've learned as a species.
I find myself drawn to believe that people created science for two reasons: to explain things based on repeated observation, and the reason to explain these things was to dispell a sense of fear and mystery surrounding them.
Conspiracy is a word that denotes the irrational, or the unproven. If people refuse to look at the evidence, or if the evidence isn't clear to them, one person's experience becomes a theory, while the majority agrees to quarantine the "conspiracist" to her own beliefs while labeling her mad.
Interesting world, hm?
